Zatanna sat silently in the study, focusing on her practices for the day.

At least, focusing on them as best she could. 

Even before John had decided he could just waltz into her room and very blatantly try to distract her from her readings and practice, her attention was constantly being pulled as he made various kinds of noises, be it on his own or through his torturing of poor Mr. Tibbles.

A soft sigh left her as John walked in, finally getting bored of trying to distract himself and deeming it time to rope Zatanna into his mayhem.

She did everything she could in an attempt to ignore him, but alas, the attempt was in vain.

With a slight groan, she leaned her head back and looked at him with her brows raised.

“John, sweetheart, I’m trying to study. Please, please, please let me do it for another half an hour? That’s all. After that, I’m all yours, okay?”

While she had no doubt in her mind that he wouldn’t be able to keep quiet for three minutes, she figured she’d try.

“Mmmmh- buh wotcher studyin’? Tell meee-“

Nope, half an hour was thirty minutes too long and John was already going mental with absolute boredom.

He rocked her chair a little, pulled the back of it to tilt against his torso as he dipped his head to give her an upside down kiss, a messy one!

“Tell -kiss- me -kiss- or -kiss- I���ll -kiss- ne’er -kiss- e’er -kiss- leave -kiss- yeh -kiss- alone~”

Cue evil laughter and cracked lightning in the distance!

John wrapped his arms around Zatanna’s shoulders and looked at her all upside down and cute. He pinched her nose, kissed her again, then reached past her for the book on the table to read its title.

“Kinshasa, by Filip de Boeck and Marie-Francoise Plissard. African witchcraft, fancy, Zee. We doin’ voodoo now?”

Meh. John tossed her book over his shoulder and shifted to settle himself down on her lap.

“Alrite, ‘alf ‘our’s up! All mine now!” That was barely three minutes! What a lousy little liar. John began to nuzzle her ear and nip her neck and well, just being a downright pest now since Nick wasn’t around and Zee was just so soft and sweet...

Why study when there’s just so many other things to do?

The Sabbats of May
